I have been showing and breeding these lovely little wild things since 1992. They have captured my hearts and my mind. All of the Basenjis are health tested for OFA, CERF, Fanconi, Thyroid. I feel that quality is more important then quantity so I only breed every few years. Tammen's Basenjis has produced American Kennel Club Champions along with United Kennel Club Grand Champions and also Best In Show Winners, our dogs are also working in the obedience and agility rings and coursing fields.
We have a few health issues with basenjis that you need to be aware of Fanconi which is a herritary kidney diease, PRA, IPSID, Hip Dysplasia, HA and PPM. For more information on these you can go to http://www.basenji.org/?q=node/17

If you have a Basenji already if you are not breeding please at least do the Fanconi test. That way you will know if your beloved pet is Clear, Carrier or Affected. If your Basenji is Affected there is a support group of other owners of Fanconi affected animals there to help at : fanconidogs-owner@yahoogroups.com.
We breed on a limited basis to top quality stud dogs only. The puppies then live in a home enviroment until they are at least 10 weeks old. During that time socialization begins that is the foundation on which future owners can build a good all around hound, be it pet, performance or conformation. We are located in Maryland.
If you are interested in getting a puppy from me, first read up on the breed and then contact me. I recommend you send a email with the following information.
* Your name, address, phone, email; how many people in the household,
and ages of family members.
* Dog history: Do you currently have any dogs, and if so, what breed(s)? Have you had
dogs in the past, and what breeds? How long did you have them, and if you did not
have them for their entire life, please give full history and explain why?
* Do you currently have any non-dog pets? Do you plan to?
* Why are you interested in a Basenji?
* Why do you want a Basenji?
* Do you own or rent your home?
* Do you have a yard, and if so, is it fully and securely fenced?
* How much time will your dog spend outdoors? Kenneled or crated? Alone at home
each day?

All Tammen's Basenji pet puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract. I will stay on your puppies papers until I receive from your vet a letter stating the the puppy has been spayed or neutered. At that time I will pay to have the registration changed over to just your name.
You will sign a contract before the puppy leaves my home. In this contract all expectations of both parties are clearly delineated. Most importantly: If you cannot keep your dog for any reason at any time during its life, I am given the right of first refusal to take the dog back. When the puppy leaves my house for yours, it is not the end of our relationship, but the begining. I am always there for questions, problem-solving, referrals (Vets, handlers anything else), and I encourage you keep me posted on your dog's progress.
